The Time Cafe - Stump Cross

Dauntingly named the Full English Caveman Breakfast, this epic comes in at a hefty £10.95 and with a cuppa (extra hot water provided), the whole bill was £12.90.  So it was with some trepidation I awaited the waitress.  Would I be able to cycle back home - or even get my leg over the cross bar?

What a treat!  Good quality sausage, bacon and black pudding, nicely grilled rather than swimming in a sea of fat, excellent fried egg with a golden yolk, perfect baked beans.  Even a touch of greenery - a nod to healthy eating!

Actually there are some pretty good alternatives if the cholesterol count is too high for you - check out the crushed avocado, porridge etc.

An excellent breakfast and well worth cycling up the long, long drag of Fancarl for.

The Coffee Mill - Skipton

Tempted in by the board advertising the All Day breakfast, which included tea, toast and orange juice for a very reasonable £6.95.  OK so bike parking is a bit of a problem, being directly on Otley Street, but if you can manage it then it's worth popping in.  Mind you, I'm not a fan of canned tomatoes, especially when the juice mixes with egg yolk.  However, pretty good value.

Saltaire Cafe - Leeds Bradford Airport

Here we are in the departure area of Leeds Bradford Airport - tricky access for cyclists you might think, but the Grassington Guzzlers are here en mass for their annual cycling trip to Mallorca.

After an early check in there is little to do other than peruse the delights on offer airside, so we settled  into the Saltaire Cafe and ordered the full English.  Tricky decision as there were various options - the All Day, the Ultimate or the Traditional.  Pricy, but what the heck - we are on hloiday!

Here's the Traditional Breakfast, weighing in at £9.29.  It seems the promised potato rosti was off, substituted with a few croquettes instead.

What was it like?  Hmmm - ok I suppose but would have been improved with some toast (which was extra at a further £2.49).

Ireby Green Farm Cafe - near Ingleton

This cafe requires a bit of a diversion to avoid the A65 but is accessible from Wennington which is handy when cycling in the Bentham area.

An excellent spread with quality ingredients - the bacon is fabulous!  A smaller option is available too at a very reasonable £6.75.  Tea/coffee and toast is included - and an extra point is awarded for supplying marmalade too.

Stump Cross Caverns - Greenhow

After battling along Duck Street, it is with some relief that the turn west is made and the downhill section to Grassington begins.  However, it is well worth calling in at Stump Cross Caverns on leaving Greenhow in order to replenish those lost calories.......

.....On offer is the standard full English for £9.95 which includes tea and toast, or for the adventurous, the Caveman breakfast at £12.95.  This is effectively double the regular full English shown below and even your intrepid reporter quailed at the thought!

Parkgate Cafe - Otley

Situated just by the bridge over the river Wharfe in Otley, this cafe saves going into the centre of town and worrying about where to leave the bikes.  Having said that, we chose to sit at one of the two small tables on the pavement outside in order to keep a close eye on them.

The full English consisted of the usual fare with included toast and tea - excellent value.

After working through that, the boys were suitably fortified for tackling Norwood Edge!

Hazy Dayz - Hellifield

We often cycle past this cafe on the way back from Holden Clough, but having feasted very well there unfortunately Hazy Dayz doesn't get much more than a passing glance.  Today however, we determined to explore the possibilities and were rewarded by a fine breakfast spread.

Earlier customers had the baked beans served in little glass dishes so I guess they had run out, which drops a presentation point.  However, the black pud was excellent, good thick toast and a decent sausage, fresh mushrooms and tomato.  The generous piece of back bacon could have been a bit warmer - perhaps mine had been cooked first.
