Goat Gap Cafe - Newby

Situated on the A65 this cafe would normally be off the books as you’d be pretty mad to cycle on such a busy road. Fortunately however, there is a side road from Newby towards Bentham which makes it nice and accessible.

Breakfast starts at 9am and boy what a choice. Big and little Yorkshire breakfasts, vegetarian, eggs on sourdough, the list goes on. Remember to get your order in before 11:30 though as the cafe then moves on to the lunch menu.

The big Yorkshire included 3 sausages, black pud, crispy bacon, mushrooms, beans, egg, tomato and 4 slices of toast. Excellent!

Riverbank - Burnsall

Riverbank is a small eco-cafe situated in Burnsall village car park (£1 for an hour or £5 all day).  It is open from Thursday to Sunday all year round.  It gains a star straight away for having a cycle rack.  Inside there are no menus, just choose from what you see at the serving hatch.  When I visited it consisted of assorted cakes and a few savouries - I chose a Thai Vegetable Roll and a "Fat Boy" which was similar to a sausage roll.  So, no full English breakfast on offer unfortunately.  Still, the rolls were good and washed down with a cup of tea the bill came to £8.50.

TJ's Tearoom - Cracoe

TJ's is an extension of Jackson's Farm Shop in Cracoe - locally famous for quality sausages.  Cyclists and muddy boots are welcome and the cafe is rather larger than its outside appearance suggests.  There is an impressive selection of breakfasts, including a vegetarian option, as well as a cyclists special.  The mugs are bigger than the teapot!

Price is a very reasonable £6.95 inclusive of tea/coffee, or for an extra pound you can go the whole hog and order the large breakfast as shown below.

Katie's Cuppas - Halton Gill

Not really a breakfast, or even a cafe - but this has to be one of our all time favourites.  Situated in the hamlet of Halton Gill, Katie's Cuppas consists of a farm outhouse containing tea and coffee making facilities, cakes and a toilet.

Seating is outside, under a covered porch across the road.  The cakes are first rate and the choice of (make your own) drinks impressive, with a selection of teas, coffee and cold drinks in the fridge.

Payment is on an honesty basis - check the price written on the wall (drinks) or cakes (slices are individually wrapped and marked) and put your money in the plastic box.

Billy Bob's Ice Cream Parlour - Halton East

Situated on the back road from Bolton Abbey to Embsay, Billy Bob's is a little out of the way for general traffic but well worth the trip.  It is a replica of an American Diner and massive inside!  A good selection of American style breakfasts are on offer.

Town End Farm Shop - Airton

Not only a farm shop, but a fine cafe too!  Cycle racks and outdoor seating, but more comfortable inside with plenty of tables and a cracking breakfast.

Tea on the Green - Bolton Abbey

This one is a cracker!  Although a full English breakfast was not on the menu, as it was quiet the cook kindly made us one from the ingredients he had available.  Superb effort and beautifully presented.
